“Now the rotten CEOs are gone. It’s Mirando’s new era with me, and with new core values, environment and life.”

Lucy takes over the Mirando Corporation in 2007, promising a new vision for the company that is friendly to consumers and the environment. Yet, she is plagued by her self image and obsession with comparing herself to her sister. This is what informs her business strategy, which is built on positive media coverage to make her and the Mirando Corporation look like benevolent entities.

“I mean Daddy was a terrible man. He was a real horror. But, by God, did he know about business.”

Nancy Mirando takes over the company after Lucy’s failure at the super pig reunion, and she is the exact opposite of Lucy. She gives no effort to creating positive media portrayals of the company, but rather focuses on purely profit. She cannot be bothered to consider the ethics of her business deals.

The film does beg the question though - is Lucy any better than Nancy? In the end, Lucy’s faked benevolence and “white lies” did nothing to improve conditions for the super pigs, and was misleading to consumers too.

Tilda Swinton does a great job at playing both roles. Her facial expressions for Lucy truly express Lucy’s facade of confidence, while her blunt acting shows off Nancy's personality.
